4. He’s pretty darn cute. Now tell us your story:
When I was a child, around 7 years of age, my family moved into a new home. My mom was not a bad housekeeper, but family time definitely came first, before cleaning.
Shortly after moving in, we came home one day to find the vacuum sitting in the middle of the hallway. It had not been there when we left. This type of occurrence became normal over the next few months. A broom left leaning against the wall in the kitchen, a sponge and some scouring powder sitting out on the sink.
After a few months, my mother mentioned the strange occurrences to a new neighbor friend who responded by saying that the previous owner, who had passed away, had been a fastidious housekeeper. We were informed that her name was Cora and she had been a feisty, older woman, with no children of her own, and had been known for keeping a perfectly clean home, down to the plastic sofa covers.
It became a thing in our house to talk to Cora and let her know that the cleaning could wait as we were busy having enjoyable family time. It was common, for all the years we lived in that house, to hear my mom say things like “Cora, I know you are not going to be happy, but those dishes will have to wait until tomorrow. If you don’t like it, maybe you can do them for me while we are out!”
The incidences of cleaning supplies pulled from their cupboards became less frequent, but never fully stopped for as long as we lived there. My family lived many years in harmony with Cora.
I believe she grew to enjoy the sound of laughter and fun in the house just a little more than having a perfectly clean home.
5. Would you say this experience changed your life? If so, how so?
I grew up believing spirits are around us and not always trying to do us harm.
6. Would you want to have the experience again?
Sure. Cora was a great addition to our family and a constant talking point.
7. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I wonder if Cora is still harassing the current owners of the house or if she has moved on.
Next week the Holidays officially start! And as such, we’ll be focusing our Spotlight series on Player Tributes! This is a chance for players to give gratitude to other players. Read all about Player Tributes!
