What I’m about to tell you isn’t a fictional tale, it’s a real life experience.
When I was 16 years old , I got a job working in a spa at a historical hotel named The Sagamore in the Bolton Landing, NY. Growing up, I always heard the hotel was haunted but I didn’t believe in the paranormal, so I didn’t really pay much attention to the stories. It didn’t take long before I became a believer though.
It started off like any normal day, I was scheduled to open which meant I was the ONLY person in the spa. As an attendant it was my job to prep the spa for guests before they arrived. I went about my duties like any other day. One of my tasks was to go to the room service department of the hotel (a few hallways over) to get ice for the cucumber water we serve. When I returned back to the spa (still, I was the only one there) the faucet had turned on by itself to one of the specialty bathtubs. Suspicious, I turned it off but thought maybe someone came in and was trying to mess with me.
The day went on and others started to arrive to work. One of the receptionists, Tia came in freaking out. She said she saw a women in white in the hallway and thought a guest had somehow gotten in. She tried speaking to this women but she soon witnessed the women walking towards her and right through her. She seen a ghost! I was still in disbelief. I had to take the employee elevator from the spa to the fitness center a few floors down later that day. Upon entering the elevator, I smelled cigar smoke. I saw a heavy set man smoking a cigar look at me, smile, then disappear.
There wasn’t a day of working at that spa that I didn’t see something paranormal happen. I decided to investigate things more one day and did some research. I found out I’m not the only one who’s encountered the man in the elevator or the lady in white. It’s still haunted to this day and is rated one of America’s top 10 most haunted hotels.
5. Would you say this experience changed your life? If so, how so?
This experience opened my mind up to believing in the paranormal.
6. Would you want to have the experience again?
I wouldn’t mind.
